Help Develop Progressives' Strategy
With anonymous corporate money continuing to flood our elections, and Congress and the Supreme Court unwilling to fix this mess, it’s time for progressives to stand up and speak out.
That’s why we hosted a recent strategy session to get the input of grassroots progressives. Watch the video summarizing our strategy session — then we need you to weigh in.
How should progressives fight corporate influence? What specific issues should we take on? Vote for your favorite ideas below, weigh in with comments — or suggest your own idea!

Help the American people understand that congress is holding up jobs not the president!
show on tv over and over again the bills up for votes to create jobs i.e. "the jobs bill",
and show exactly which congress person voted against the bill and which congress person voted for the bill. Use a chart and show it on TV over and over.5,176 votes -
Eliminate the influence of money from our political system
We need to remove the influence of money from politics through strong and meaningful campaign financing reform. Not just reducing campaign contributions, but eliminating them entirely. We need to introduce legislation to limit the financing of Congressional political races to federally provided funds only, and restrict advertising to federally authorized channels in equal amounts for every candidate. In order to qualify for federal campaign funding, candidates should be required to demonstrate a minimum level of grassroots public support, such as by obtaining 20,000 paper signatures, or 100,000 online signatures. Only during this signature-gathering phase should campaign contributions be allowed, and…

Tell the truth to the Republican lies.
There has been an incredible amount of distortion and outright lying going on by the Republicans and their SuperPACs that we need to get the facts out there. 1) 4+ billion jobs created in last 3.5 years; 2) government has become SMALLER under Obama; 3) stimulus worked (show bikini graph) and slowdown started when the Republicans started obstructing; 4) use the graph that shows how much of our deficit is due to Bush's tax cuts and show what will happen to deficit if rich start paying more; 5) big short soundbite type list of the positives of Affordable Healthcare Act.…

Learn to communicate progressive values, not policies - Change the Dialogue
Learn to communicate progressive values without using conservative words and phrases. Stop negating their language while using their language. When Richard Nixon declared, "I am not a crook," the mind doesn't register the 'not.' Saying there were no death panels in ACA didn't keep them from being believed in.
Professor Goerge Lakoff has researched liguistics and how the brain works, and has written exeonsively about what conservatives know about communicating and what progressives have yet to learn.

Constitutional amendment...
I think the amendment proposed by Move to Amend (http://movetoamend.org/) is pretty good. That in combination with public funding of elections would be better. The above, AND switching to a parliamentary system with proportional representation that allowed for multiple political parties would be GREAT.

Jobs
I would have Congress pass a bill that states.... "Any corporation that takes jobs out of America to another country cannot be allowed to sell their products in this country.... They take jobs overseas to pay slave labor wages but then sell their wares for a king's ransom in America....
Any person or corporation who keeps money in foreign banks to avoid paying their fair share of tax in this country be forced to leave this country......
We live in desperate times and desperate measures must be taken.... Enough is enough!1,035 votes -

Get rid of the Electoral College.
If you really want to know how people feel about the political climate, go straight to the horse's mouth and make each vote count. Go solely with the popular vote. We know from past experience that the electorate doesn't always vote with the people. We also have to make sure that ALL Americans have the ability to vote. It's unconscionable to imagine that new fraudulent voter ID laws will keep many Americans from voting. Either that's a new definition of democracy or IT"S NOT DEMOCRACY AT ALL! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Legalize, regulate, and tax Marijuana
Millions of Americans smoke Marijuana. Our for-profit prisons are full of non-violent offenders. Drug addicts need to be treated medically, not imprisoned. Imagine the revenue streams if marijuan were treated like alcohol. Tons of new jobs and tax revenue.

$1 billion wealth cap
Cap wealth.
Wealth-building is a behavior.
Laws are made to control and/or punish behaviors that prove detrimental to their societies.
So far, wealth-building has been a sacred cow that has gotten a pass on legislation controlling it, despite the obvious harm it does to societies and the planet. Project uncontrolled wealth-building into the future and what do you see? I see men and women without understanding, wedded to the need to see their wealth grow perceptibly, demanding more and more austerity from everyone else as their collective demands outstrip the planet's productive capacity. One billionaire seeking an annual 4% or…

Boycott Boycott Boycott!!!
Some of the most successful progressive change in this country has come about thru boycotts (the civil rights movement comes to mind). There is no question that today, our political power as a people has been weakened by corporations and special interests. But here's the thing... our financial power has never been greater. Voting with our dollars can have huge and immediate impact because in the end, it's always about the money.
I'd love to see massive, coordinated boycotts aimed at targeted corporations: the ones who give the most right-wing donations or have worst environmental records, etc. Impacting their bottom…

Educate the American people on why Progressive Ideas work!
We need to educate the American people on how well-managed government programs can help them and why there is propaganda opposing them. We need to let people know that it is in their interest to be empowered by progressive ideas, to be able to work towards bettering their communities, environments, our country and the whole world. There are too many people who have been convinced by the propaganda of talk radio, the aggressive and regressive local power players, and the corporate shills to attack their own best interests. Let's start a campaign to educate issue by issue, person by person,…

The list of bills, over two hundred, that Pelosi passed to the Senate that the repubs purposely blocked or refused to work on. If the work had been done, I believe that O'Bama's whole first four years would have been so different and it would stop that damn media from saying that the dems or O'bama did nothing when they were in control

Green Energy
The Federal Government needs to offer better incentives to Americans who implmement Green Engergy; Wind Turbines, Solar Power, Hybrid Automobiles.
If we can still afford to subsidize big oil then we better be able to support those willing to think outside the box and preserve the planet and all of its life.

Think Big
Sometimes Democrats just go with what seems feasible. We should project further out on big issues, like public financing of elections.

I would suggest making lobbying illegal. Members of Congress and Senate are elected by the People to work for the People.
By accepting money from Lobby, they are like contracting a second job with conflict of interests. I agreed on the suggestion to add a reason for any NO vote. Make it mandatory, not optional.
